Belgrade as one of the oldest settlement, in the territory of the Western Balkans and South Eastern Europe, has continuous, preserved material heritage (archaeological strata in the city, as well as in museum exhibitions) from the Late Neolithic to modern times.
1. The first refers to the Ancient Singidunum, and the beginnings of creating urban area around fortress of famous
VI legions of Flavius, which is reflected in traces in modern streets´ positioning of the
old city. Hence, remains of ancient Singidunum are visible not only on the Belgrade Fortress but also at several places in central city areas.
This walking tour takes two hours, and starts from Studentski trg.
After the fall of Rome (476 years, AD), and the destruction of the system Roman Danube Limes (fortified borders), which included the ancient Singidunum, the remaining population left to itself, hided among the torn remains of the walls of the old fortresses (Roman forts).
New peoples emerge at the borders of the ancient world, the Slavs and Avars. The Slavs soon became the dominant ethnic group, opening a new chapter in the history of Belgrade-Middle Ages.
2. Tour, walking through the medieval Belgrade, is developed in two directions, the Serbian capital of Despot Stefan Lazarevic, rulers, poets humanism, world traveler, in the first half of the fifteenth century,p1010057, the Hungarian headquarters Severin ban, Nándorfehérvár, King Sigismund, Count Ulrich Celjski, and the Knights Hospitallers order of St. John.
Medieval Belgrade Nándorfehérvár, Nandor Alba, rose on the foundations of the ancient, and its visible remains are still well preserved, and are located in the Upper and Lower Towns of the Belgrade fortress.
On the foundations of the tower of Justinian in the sixth century, and additions from later periods, there was a castle of Despot Stefan, who later went to Count Ulrich Celjski. Remains of a foundation are partially preserved
until today and the stone pillars of the bridge, over which was entered into castle.
Medieval towers, parts of walls, gates, have been preserved to this day, and only preserved gothic palace in Belgrade from the fifteenth
century, with a basement, a hallway, a portal in Gothic style saddle, and a fountain.
This walking tour starts in front of the City Library, and lasts two hours.
After the fall of Belgrade in the hands of the Ottomans in the first half of the sixteenth century, Christian culture´s not died out completely, but its great expansion experienced in the first half of the eighteenth century, when the vast Habsburg empire expanded over this side of the Danube.
3. Tour, Baroque fortified city, speaks of the metamorphosis which in less than thirty years converts oriental town into a European stronghold of Christianity, established a modern and developed baroque city. Two popes, one after the other, and Austria, financed one of the most important Christian projects of the first half of the eighteenth century.
Prince Eugene of Savoy, won over Belgrade from the Turks and Prince Alexander Virtemberski ruled from his palace, which included a small zoo, and that the people sang the song about saying ˝how many days a year, so it is the windows˝. There were, of course, more palaces in then Belgrade, such as a palace of Serbian Metropolitan Vićentije Jovanovic, who was known for his feasts, and shiny suits, and the castle of Eugene of Savoy, near which was the house of Elius Flasman from 1724, existing today in almost unchanged form.
The fortress got a completely new look and this tour is visiting the most significant buildings, entering through a bastion of Lorens and going out through Staremberg´s and Leopold´s door. In the lower town, next to the water gate, gunpowder warehouse of Count Odvijer, is visited the gates of Charles VI., and the bastion of St. Jacob.By capturing as they called, the kingdom of Tribal, Austrians have got a small part of Serbia, but what they did not know at first, it is that they got the uninvited guests in their kingdom. It was the old legends, and vampires, that repeatedly appeared in different places, torturing both Austrians and Serbs.
This tour includes all of the above, starting from the palace of Albania and lasts 2 hours.
4. Tour, Belgrade of the nineteenth century, divided into three independent, separate entities.
The first covers the period after the Serbian revolution (Uprisings).
The second includes the Knez Mihailova street and parts of Dorcol, and Republic Square.
The third, Terazije, and neighborhoods around the streets of King Milan, and the palace complex.
Each of these tours lasts one hour and starts from the Republic Square.
5. Tour refers to the different stylistic influences at the scene of the Belgrade architecture of the nineteenth and twentieth century. This tour is also divided into three independents parts.
The first relates to the chronologically earliest stage in Belgrade architecture of the nineteenth century, and direct, although delayed effects of Austrian Baroque, Classicism, and Romanticism, as well as influences of Czech architects of the period.
The second tour follows the last decades of the nineteenth century, and academic course with a strong French influence, which date back to the period after World War II.
The third reveals the influence of Russian architecture, the architect of Russian immigrants, St. Petersburg school of architecture in the first half of the twentieth century.
The first two tours depart from the Republic Square, and last one hour.
The third starts from former hotel London building and lasts one hour.
6. Tour is separate, and includes a residential part of town, Dedinje, with the royal palace complex.
Tour of the neighborhood also includes limousine transportation, and lasts one hour.
7. Tour is also unique, and encompasses the old part of Zemun, with all significant cultural and historical monuments, such as the Gardos Mileniski Monument, St. Nicholas Church, Church of Our Lady, Spirtina houses and family house Karamata.
This tour also includes transportation by limousine, and lasts two hours.
8. Tour is specific in that it is modular and exclusively deals with sacred architecture, and history of the Christian heritage of Belgrade, that can be divided into two: Catholic kings and the Catholic Church in Belgrade throughout the centuries, and Orthodox kings and the Orthodox Church throughout the centuries.
This tour can be combined into one, if desired by group.
It starts from the square in front of St. Mark Church and lasts depending on the selected module, an hour or hour and a half, and it can also include transportation by limousine.
